I have been working with ms sql server in my computer and already got my ".jar" file in my virtual machine, but still when I am trying to make the connection with the database I receive an error and I want to know something. Do I need to start the data base in my virtual machine in order to make the connection? or do I need to install something else more than just the connector? I have been with this problem for a while and in the website says that as long as I have the connector in the jdbc folder I should be fine. I even asked a friend who is an expert in databases and told me this should be an easy task but even he was not able to do it.

Thanks in advance for your answer, I really appreciate it.

Where is your database? What error do you get?
the database is in my computer, not in the virtual box, I took the connector that is in your page (https://doc.dataiku.com/dss/latest/installation/jdbc.html) and that is the one I sent to the vbox via PuTTY. The error is the following: "Connection refused (Connection refused)", and my friend received an error that said "user nor found". Also he tried to connect to his tables using postgres, but since it is already connected to dataiku using the same port the system was not able to find his user, but was able to make a connection using username and password "dataiku".

Got this error  while trying with my sql connection "Connection failed: Failed to connect: Communications link failure The last packet sent successfully to the server was 0 milliseconds ago. The driver has not received any packets from the server., caused by: ConnectException: Connection refused (Connection refused)"
You can connect to a database on the host computer provided you specify the IP address of the host computer as seen from the VM (and your firewall settings allow it, of course)

This IP address depends on the particular virtualization software you are using (virtualbox, vmware, etc). One way to figure it out, if you cannot find it in the virtualization software configuration or menus, might be to log on to the VM and issue the command "ip route". The IP address shown in line "default via" should be the one to use
